Last night I really felt in the mood to watch 60 minutes after dinner and I'm so glad i did. Although it was a repeat, the broadcast featured a special tribute to Steve Jobs, interviewing biographer Walter Isaacson of the bestselling book of 2012 titled Steve Jobs. The last segment of the program discussed the influence of Jobs' ipad applications on autistic people. As a recent uncle, I try and discourage my niece from overuse of the ipad. This segment gives me a new perspective and appreciation for the good that can come from use of technology in the right way.

LCD Soundsystem - Shut Up and Play the Hits
NPR's morning edition had a great piece today on the upcoming one night only release of the concert documentary on LCD Soundsystem's last show at MSG April 2nd of 2011. Shut Up and Play the Hits opens in theaters nationwide only this wednesday, July 18th. Below is a great little teaser piece and i recommend taking the time to check out the interview with NPR's David Greene and filmmakers Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace.

Inspiring: Bob Greenberg / Jerry Weintraub
Due to my jetlag i only slept four hours last night. The benefit was listening to morning edition's Simon Says segment on my way home where i heard news that a blind sportscaster had past away this week. I couldn't believe that those words would ever be put in that sequence but apparently Bob Greenberg found a way to let listeners know what both he and they could not see. Here's the NPR story / excerpt to give you more information and a nice remembrance from his former public station post at WBEZ in Chicago.
I finished the night by watching the 2nd half of the HBO Documentary on legendary hollywood film producer and entertainment mogul Jerry Weintraub entitled "His Way" (TV - 2011). It's the perfect inspiration for someone who doesn't want to take no for an answer. I will have to watch the 1st half at another time but it was remarkable to see this man's tenacity and vision for success.

Allahumma Ya Sobhuhon ( Arabic Baha'i prayer)
Last night was the wake of my best friend's late father. It's weird how sometimes as much as i want to show my emotion in times like these i feel a bit numb. The ceremony featured several traditional Baha'i prayers spoken by his loved ones, my favorite of which was an Arabic prayer sung at the end by majority of mourners in unison.
