In this week's sesh, we sample some artists coming through LA including a special record release launchpad at the Fonda for Vampire Weekend's highly anticipated "Contra" Long playa, fellow New Yorkers The Phenomenal Handclap Band will give you two chances to applaud their brief LA stay, we also welcome Portland alt-rockers Hockey as they come to Spaceland, and rounding out the out of towners are Berkeley's Odowas and the soft-spoken singer songwriter from Alabama, Scott Bondy AKA AA Bondy. There are also a couple of specialty film screenings you don't want to miss including the Los Angeles solo debut of founding member of Siouxsie And the Banshees, Steven Severin, as he comes to Cinefamily for two successive nights of live scores to rare silent and experimental films. In addition, to celebrate the release of his latest album, "Echo Party", the MC/DJ known as Edan will appear in-person for an epic DJ set and to present the L.A. premiere of the film Echo Party, the half-hour found footage mashup companion piece to the album. Enter the Tuesday's second installment of their monthly martial arts film series includes Bruce Lee's epic Enter the Dragon. We will also make sure you are aware of the great local fare including Michael Runion's Wednesday residency at the Standard's cactus lounge, as well as LA production duo Jogger and two of the Southland's finest, Irvine experimentalists Tan Dollar and SD's punk-rockers Apes of Wrath.

Notes : The Knife (in collaboration with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock) wrote an opera — Tomorrow, In A Year — based on the writings of Charles Darwin (yes the smart guy who helps us understand who we are). It premiered last September in Denmark, and has a few upcoming European performances, but the soundtrack won't be available until March on Mute.
