Party In a Box - Super High Tech Disco Machine

This one-stop disco-in-a-box was created by Berlin-based artist Niklas Roy. In its creation Roy has once and for all the ended the problem of not being able to have a dance party at a moment's notice. The box features 600 watt speakers, party lights, and most importantly a radar detection system that automatically senses a lack of dancing and turns the machine on.

Genius. Now this guy needs to apply himself to solving other major problems we face including the oil crisis and the horrible experience that is a visit to the dentist.

Philip Glass in 12 Parts

To launch the AFI's music documentary series at the Arclight I saw an advanced screening of Glass: A Portrait of Philip in 12 parts. The film was directed by Scott Hicks , a friend of Philip Glass' who had great practice working with another obsessed pianist in '97's academy award winning Shine. In Glass...,Hicks portrays a year in the life of the brilliant composer, which included staging the opera Waiting for the Barbarians, writing his 8th symphony, and scoring for various films including his recent work with Woody Allen in Cassandra's Dream. Despite his vast achievements in his profession i was most impressed with Philip's life outside of his career. We discover Philip not as a savant outcast but a balanced family man, loyal friend, and spiritual soul with a regained vigor for life after just turning 70.

Here's a trailer to Glass' masterful score to the expertly photographed scenes in Koyaanisqatsi, which is great projection fodder at your next cocktail party.

Glass: A Portrait of Philip in 12 Parts opens in mid-april. Check out the AFI's other series of documentaries including work on the Beatles, Joy Divisioin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Prince, and Neil Young.

2009's "The Spirit" film - Written and Directed by Frank Miller

The stylishly designed series of street posters above are for the January 2009 film version of "The Spirit" (based on the comics created by Will Eisner). The film is "the story of a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as the Spirit to fight crime from the shadows of Central City." How's that for a mouthful?

With Frank Miller of Sin City and the 300 fame on board to write and direct this pulp noir cult classic adaptation, fans have a lot to look forward to. Worst case, even if the movie sucks, it should be visually stylin', and with the likes of Scarlett Johanson, Jaime King, Paz Vega, and Eva Mendes on board, at least the guys will be distracted for 2 hours and probably won't notice.

Puma 917 Mid Canvas Sneaker - So Fresh and So Clean

For one reason or another, Converse Chuck Taylors and Jack Purcells never seem to fit me, so I tend to have to go with other company's versions of canvas sneakers. The shoes here are the Puma 917 Mid Canvas. These bad boys really caught my eye because they have a nice clean aesthetic, but have enough features to set them apart - the mid high top with the buckle, the fabric panels by the lace holes, and the signature Puma swoop logo.

If anyone figures out exactly when these will be available, let me know- they're only $45 and are available at Puma Concept stores. For more new canvas shoes checkout the source.

** UPDATE- Another pic, more colors online purchase available at the Puma Europe Shop:

A Found Video Gem - Mr. T x Hulk Hogan x ... Andy WARHOL ?!

I think I'm going to have to start paying Sam, uber-guitarist from Bedtime for Toys, a finder's fee for all this madness he digs up. This post Wrestlemania interview from the 80s features an otherwise typical recap by Mr. T and Hulk Hogan... typical until Cyndi Lauper and ANDY WARHOL enter the picture!:

For more Warhol-ish goodness, checkout the Warhol Factory x Levis x Damien Hirst collaboration at Fred Segal Santa Monica. A limited time only pop-up store will be opening at Fred Segal Man today April 3rd:

What I'd drive if I lived in the Fifties- 1955 Porsche 356

Checkout this uber limited prototype version of the 1955 Porsche 356. If I was around in the fifties and had a fat disposable income, I'd be rolling this thing down Melrose lookin' like the baddest cat on the block...
It's really wicked unique because it looks like the bastard child of a typical Porsche and a World War II fighter plane. If I couldn't drive it, then James Bond or Bruce Wayne would look pretty good in it as well.

More music video Goodness from The Roots - "Get Busy"

Wow, this 'Rik Cordero' fellow is really on fire- he just directed another music video for The Roots off their upcoming album "Rising Down" (which streets April 29th). If the rest of the album is as good as the first two songs and videos, then we have a lot to look forward to. Some die hard Roots purists might not dig where they're going with this new sound, but I think it's pretty fresh. Disagree?- leave a comment and let us know what you think...
