New Work & Prints by Artist Edward Walton Wilcox

It's been a while since we've checked in with our friend, painter Edward Walton Wilcox, and it looks like he's been up to a lot. He's got several new works and of the most interest to us is that he now has several limited edition prints available on his site. Checkout these pieces and the press release below for more info! For those of you in Europe, Edward and his Wife are in your neck of the woods gearing up for a show in Berlin! Stay tuned for more info!

Press release:

The highly sought after work of award winning American Gothic painter Edward Walton Wilcox is now available online in small run editions. If you can’t make it to Berlin this summer for his next show at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery check out the recently launched online store. David Cotner from LA Weekly states, “The eye swallows up Wilcox’s isolated apocalypses in miniature that glow with burnished fury as houses go up in flames and twilit sleepwalkers find themselves in the middle of nowhere. In Wilcox's spaces, no one can hear you scream — they just watch you do it in radiantly muted, sepia-toned slow-motion. Wilcox's work is a brilliant and romantic star hurtling through the same galaxy as fellow travelers Odd Nerdrum and Hieronymous Bosch, so if you like your aesthetic dread spiked with the imploding placid inevitable, then this is the art for you.”
Consistent with medieval techniques employed in Wilcox’s paintings, the hand made prints are a combination of the same materials used in the originals. Cabinet makers’ birch hard wood is coated with multiple layers of hand laid gesso as the sub-straight for each print, followed by an over-painting and varnishing resulting in a surface texture strikingly similar to that of the original and due to the individualized treatment of every piece the result is a reproduction unique unto itself.

Edward Walton Wilcox Opening @ Ambrogi|Castanier Gallery

Last Saturday the FoundTrack team and a few close Friends dropped by the opening of the Edward Walton Wilcox show at the Ambrogi | Castanier Gallery. Just as we'd expected, it's safe to say that both the art and the event were both awesome. If you're in LA, you definitely need to stop by and check it out- you really can't get a feel for the size/scope of these pieces from these photos alone. The piece on the left entitled "Mao as Panda" seemed to be a crowd favorite (see full image in the slide show below) :

This eerie take on a view of the Hollywood hills is a piece entitled "Angel 2008":

Several festive FoundTrack Friends were there to rock it out and enjoy the cool visuals, including our London coordinator Ranjini, Talent Manager to the talented and beautiful- Anthony Rodriguez, Dane from the Moss Gallery, Fashionista Sara from the LA Times, and of course Vanessa (Manager of the Ambrogi | Castanier Gallery). Last, but most importantly though, the Artist, Edward Walton Wilcox, was on hand with some of his family:

Checkout the slide show for photos from the night and closeups of a few pieces:

The Art of Edward Walton Wilcox... beauty is so distracting

Edward Walton Wilcox
paints images that are simultaneously beautiful to view, yet seemingly disturbing. These mixed emotions are what Wilcox intends to evoke as he critiques pop culture's ability to use beauty to distract us from real issues.

Beginning March 8th and running through March 29th, Wilcox's work will be exhibited at the Ambrogi | Castanier Gallery in West Hollywood, CA... I definitely can't wait to check it out.

LA Art Opening this Sat 3/8- Edward Walton Wilcox @ Ambrogi | Castanier Gallery

Hola LA People:

FoundTrack Friend Vanessa @ the Ambrogi|Castanier Gallery is hosting an art opening this Saturday, 3/8 featuring artist Edward Walton Wilcox. We've featured his work before, and it's really cool and gritty stuff. While maintaining a very LA quality, it is actually meant to be a "moral critique on a society trying to shroud itself in a diversion of beauty."

Learn more about Wilcox and see more of his work at his official site, and on this entry we posted earlier on this here bloggedy blog.

When: Opening Reception Saturday March 8th, 6-10pm

Where: Ambrogi|Castabuer Gallery - 300 N. Robertson Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90048

NO RSVP required, but we've heard they're expecting a pretty big turnout.

Jillian Kogan's "State of Mind" Gallery

I found out about this gallery while looking into the upcoming Edward Walton Wilcox opening. Jillian Kogan, the artist who created the above, creates unique pieces of "flag art" that set out to "demystify the iconography of state flags." Using various themes that touch on the daily lives of Californians, Kogan incorporates everything from caffeine obsession to the porn industry (like the Californication piece above) into her works.

Thanks to our new FoundTrack Friend, the lovely Vanessa from the Ambrogi | Castanier Gallery, who invited us to checkout the opening this past weekend. For those of you in LA, the show runs through February 24th, 2008. Take a peek at a few of the pieces on display- they're all pretty reasonable, so make sure to get in touch with Vanessa if you're interested in any of them:
