Jessica Lea Mayfield

I have a soft spot for depressingly beautiful alt-country singer songwriteres. Kent, Ohio's Jessica Lea Mayfield is the newest addition to that group, already making a big impression in 2011 with endorsements as Spin Magazine's Best New Artist, and her new album positioned on Pitchfork's top Winter '11 upcoming releases, and Stereogum's top 50 most anticipated albums of 2011. She got her first big break when one of only 100 copies of her bedroom-recorded White Lies EP landed in the hands of Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys. Auerbach was so impressed, he would later go on to produce her critically acclaimed debut With Blasphemy So Heartfelt and will continue to do so on her upcoming Nonesuch debut, Tell Me, out on February 8. They are offering "Our Hearts Are Wrong" for free via the widget below.
