Rainbow Arabia are husband and wife Echo Park-based duo, Danny and Tiffany Preston, both with a penchant for middle eastern dance music, mixed with some 808, earthshattering electro-lized elephantitus of the basslines. As if the crucial picture above doesn't tell the story. They are currently working on a full-length debut but please do catch their bombastic EP, The Basta as well as the limited edish Omar K seven inch single in the jungle colored vinyl format. Find a number of remixes and newer cuts on their rcrdlbl page. However, Sinead would agree that nothing compares to their highly touted, enriching live performance and just after they leave France this week they are returning home for a couple of LA appearances including next week at Spaceland's Club NME night. Here's an interesting music video to our featured, Omar K, which must have been shot in our fabled Rock N' Roll Ralphs, where you are sure to find hollywood's batch of animal crackers coming to life most sat nights/sunday mornings.

And by interesting, i mean absolutely insane. Wonder what this kid wants to be when he grows up?

Rainbow Arabia @ Echo

There is a scene brewing in LA and it sounds delicious. Last night at the echo, a sampling was on the menu including FT alums Fools Gold, Rainbow Arabia, We Are the World, and headliner Weave, finishing their month-long free residency. I was particular curious in the Rainbow Arabia appetizer, hearing the post-chatter from my recent trip to the CMJ music marathon in New York. The band consists solely of husband and wife Danny and Tiffany Preston. Danny, formerly of LA's eclectic afrofunk troupe Future Pigeon, was playing what seemed like 4 different keyboards including an arabic one while Tiffany provided the enchanting vocals, guitar and occasional live percussion to supplement their electronic 808 thump in your trunk. The band was fashionably accompanied by a few vibrant, scary looking stand-up creatures on stage which resembled the caveman at the end of the matterhorn ride and a tripped out little shop of horrors plant on some wicked drugs. To close out their beat-driven set, they asked for a Fools Gold percussion player to join them on stage and they got several as a party ensued. Rainbow Arabia just finished a tour with another FT alum, Gang Gang Dance but you can catch them this thursday at the Venus Warehouse in Downtown LA. Here is a slideshow of some pics from the show.
