I've been waiting for this music video to be released for a while now! It's my favorite track off of N.A.S.A.'s debut LP "The Spirit of Apollo," and features a ferociously elegant collaboration between N.A.S.A.'s Squeak E Clean & Zegon, the RZA, Barbie Hatch and John Frusciante. The video is directed by Syd Garon and Sage Vaughn who were also responsible for the beautiful artwork. ENJOY!:
Our good buddies Emile and Jamie at Six29 Entertaiment just sent over the new music video they produced for Hyper Crush's "Robo Tech." The band rocked it out at our February '08 FoundTrack Fiesta and we hear they've been doing big things recently (getting signed to Universal anyone?). Props go out to director Mickey Finnegan, Justin Krook who edited it and did the After Effects work, and Lawson Deming who did the 3d work on this thing:
Super caliente music video director So-Me is back again with a seriously dope music video to Kid Cudi's single "Day N' Nite." Some of you might remember So-Me's style of signature motion-graphics heavy material in breakthrough videos for Justice including "D.A.N.C.E." and "DVNO" AND Kanye's "Good Life." Kick back and enjoy:
Washington DC's gearing up for a few crazy days of celebration as the inauguration is only a few days away. Over in outer space or wherever they call home, Daft Punk and Adam Freeland must also be in a celebratory mood. The two have paired up to produce this super rad stop motion video featuring amongst other things a Bearbrick gettin' its dance on with an Obama doll. Enjoy:
FoundTrack's Fashionable Friends at 55DSL are sponsoring this year's edition of a really cool annual design tournament called "Cut & Paste." Competitors in 3 categories, 2D, 3D & Motion Graphics, are given 15 minutes to battle it out for design glory and bragging rights. The first event was hosted in London, but the 2009 edition will feature a round the world tour- the winners of each regional battle will meet in NYC for the Global Championships.
If you're interested in JOINing the Tournament, visit Cut & Paste's official site and make sure to register by January 14th in the US and February 6th in Europe/Asia. Check out this rad sizzle reel and get pumped up for the new year of design ahead of us- This looks wicked- I'll definitely be at the LA event... Judges from all three design disciplines will be announced in the coming weeks and the LA stop currently include Chevon Hicks of Heavenspot and Adina Sales of Blacklist.
This ad from Adidas Europe is pretty badass- It features a vision of a what a future game of soccer might look like. The player is rocking a high tech uniform/suit of armor that is able to break down and rematerialize with the help of a little CGI. The whole thing is set to Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata (dropped down a key) which juxtaposes the flashy visuals nicely.
While the ad is super cool, I do have to note that it totally totally reminded me Lacoste's 75th anniversary "Let's reinvent the Game" spot... Not sure who came up with the concept first so I won't sit here and judge either piece. And now for some eye candy:
Chromeo, the oh so spunky dance duo, has released the music video to their song "Momma's Boy." It's in my opinion the funniest song on their record, and now it gets an equally good video. All you animation/motion graphics (and oedipal complex) people are going to dig this as well:
Radiohead has pushed us to the cutting edge once again- this time with their new music video for "House of Cards" from their most recent LP, In Rainbows (of online independent distribution fame). Director James Frost has created a trippy video that used zero camera work. Rather, it's composed of 3d images created scanned by lasers! After you watch the video, checkout Google's Radiohead miscrosite for the video to learn more on the making of...
A few weeks ago we featured the new song "My Drive Thru" by Pharrell Williams (and N.E.R.D), Santogold, and Julian Casablancas that's available exclusively through Converse.com. Here now is the music video to said song. Converse has been doing some really creative stuff recently, and it continues with this new music video which is full of crazy cool motion graphics:
First off, thanks to my roomie Hache for the heads up on this. "BLU" is a street artist out of Buenos Aires, Argentina. His work tends to hit a sort of politically striking tone and can be seen at his awesome online sketchbook. While there seems to be an abundance of street artists in the present day, what sets BLU apart are his experimental projects. Take for instance, this amazing animated street art video entitled "MUTO" that's been making its rounds on the interwebs. Basically, each frame of animation is a photo of a street painting he did. I'm assuming that for each progressive frame, the previous painting was painted over by the content of the next. I can't even imagine how long this thing to put together, but it's pretty damn amazing. Do yourself a favor and check it out:
Diesel really raised the bar with it's Spring/Summer 2008 Fashion Show at the Pitti Immagine Uomo fair in Florence. While models traversed the runway, 3d holograms were projected on the stage and made it look like an awesome underwater setting.
The CGI holograms were totally viewable from all angles- wish I was in attendance! This looked like a wicked time. See below for a video from the show.
As part of the celebration of their 75th Anniversary, Lacoste has launched a campaign called "Let's Reinvent the Game," depicting their vision of where tennis will be 75 years in the future. This video is phenonmenal and their official site has interactive games and more you can checkout. All you film/video/motion graphics fans are gonna geek out on this:
A few years ago when those horrible sequels to the Matrix were being released, Warner Brothers released a straight to DVD animated title called "The Animatrix." The intent was to bridge the gap between the films and explore the content at a level that was deeper than the feature films could get into. The project paired various animators with various writers, and the result was actually better than the Matrix sequels it was intended to promote:
Fans of "The Animatrix" and Batman should dig the news that WB plans on following a similar strategy to promote this summer's super hyped "Batman Begins" sequel, "The Dark Knight" (see the trailer here - early word is that it's going to be awesome). "Batman Gotham Knight" is a straight to DVD release that pairs 6 acclaimed writers (including David S Goyer who wrote "Batman Begins" and Josh Olson who wrote "A History of Violence") with 6 of the top Japanese Animation directors out there. The 6 shorts each tell their own stories but all come together to bridge the gap between the last Batman movie and this summer's one. Checkout the trailer here, and this little cool featurette featuring some of the team that was involved:
I came across this trailer very much by chance, and was amazed that I had never heard of the movie before. "Presented" by David Fincher and Spike Jonze (good sign already!) The Fallis Tarsem Singh's second foray into feature films. He may be the man behind the disaster that was The Cell, but with no J-Lo in sight, it's already sounding more promising. Starring Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies) this trailer has some really stunning visuals in this blend of fantasy with reality. Think Labyrinth meets Bridge to Terabithia. It may be utterly perplexing, but looks brilliant.
FoundTrack Amigos Bedtime for Toys (the kickass party rockers that they are) have just premiered their new music video to "Cold Fever" directed by Timothy Garrett... be cool and check it out. I want their outfits from the shoot:
Addictive TV is an awesome group based out of the UK that is hired by marketers to "remix" video such as movie trailers, music videos and commercials to make a more viral and unique product out of the original. Take a look at this remix of the Iron Man Trailer they did that ends up turning all the sound affects and visuals into a new electro/breakbeat/hiphop beat:
A little more on Addictive TV in their own words:
We're the London based audio/visual artists and DJ/producers known for our film remix cut-up work - particularly our breakbeat remix of The Italian Job that landed us work for tinseltown. In 2006 we remixed the Antonio Banderas film Take the Lead creating an audiovisual dance track viral for the films promo campaign. The viral also won an award from Adland, the advertising industry website and online archive of commercials.
FoundTrack Friend Paul Bellezza (famed LA Taco Truck blogger, and member of Team Riot Games) invited us to USC's Interactive Media Thesis Exhibition, "Press Start." More info on the show is below, but basically it's a showcase of the graduate projects of this masters program. Should be an awesome showcase for anyone that's into design, interactive media, video games, motion graphics or art in general.
To kill time until the opening reception this Saturday, checkout the trailer to the independently produced video game "The Misadventures of P.B. WinterBottom" that Paul and company have been working on. I won't pretend to be an expert on the technical side of this stuff, but I can say that from a visual standpoint the game looks awesome- it's highly stylized and is inspired by silent black and white films of Hollywood's early era:
The USC School of Cinematic Arts Interactive Media Division proudly presents PRESS START, an exhibition of graduate thesis projects from our three-year MFA program. These eleven unique projects are an eclectic mix of new explorations in interactive media featuring a very wide range of play scenarios and themes. These projects promise to move you, entertain you and make you think.
Opening Reception Saturday, May 10, 2008 | 5-9 PM
LOCATION 555 W 23rd Street Los Angeles, CA 90007 (Texere Plaza, 23rd/Figueroa St.) Google Map
The image above is a still shot from Bjork's new music video to "Wanderlust" (from 2007's Volta). At first glance it looks like awesome set design and art direction- but in reality the video is rendered entirely in 3D- amazing amazing stuff. Leave it to Bjork to up the music video ante once again.
Checkout the video below- all you design, graphics, and film folks especially are going to dig this one. Word up to Big Sam from Bedtime for Toys for the heads up on this:
At 22 years old, Chuck Anderson is doing work for clients such as Absolut, Adidas, Dolby, Nike, Nokia, and Triple Five Soul- a feat many older designers have yet to claim. His style combines photography, line drawings, and computer graphics to create a unique fluorescent accented style. In addition to print advertising work, he's also designed fashion pieces such as shoes and jackets, and album artwork for musicians such as Lupe Fiasco:
This crazy piece is a new snowboarding jacket called the "Light Camo" from Burton's '09 Collection:
So I know we've featured a lot of Kanye West videos on this blog, but what can I say- they're fresh. Kanye aside, the main reason I'm posting this is because it's directed by "SO ME," Ed Banger's Art Director extraordinaire and director of Justice's "DVNO" video that's oh so hot on the interwebs right now. The "Good Life" music video once again features the signature top shelf motion graphics.
Thanks to FoundTrack Friend, the lovely DJ Valida (who btw was featured by Metromix in a double whammy this week- see here and here) for reminding me about this vid- "Good Life" is possibly my favorite track off of the "Graduation" LP:
