The Morning Benders are a youthful indie-pop rock quartet from Berkeley, CA, founded by lead singer/guitarist Chris Chu. They've developed quite a following after the release of their debut LP, Talking Through Tin Cans this past Spring and are currently getting ready to play at both the Monolith and Treasure Island festivals in September before a brief tour with Ra Ra Riot and several Puma In-stores this October. Try this video on for size of our featured "Boarded Doors"

The Benders have recently offered The Bedroom Covers, an album featuring new interpretations of some of their favorite tunes from yesteryear including songs of Fleetwood Mac, The Cardigans, The Ronettes, Roy Orbison and many more recorded on a laptop in their apartment. You can find more info. on the project on the benders blog as well as links to download the entire album.

FoundTrack's August '08 Compilation (Track 12/16) - Mike Relm - Body Rock

Mike Relm - Body Rock (Track 12/16)
Album - Spectacle (Coming Soon)
Label - Radio Fried
http://www.myspace.com/mikerelm
Photo Taken by Jerome Gacula to gear up for his tour with the Blue Man Group

Mike Relm is the multimedia master audio/visualist/turntablist from San Francisco, CA, dazzling audiences with his wildly imaginative onslaught of pop culture bits that combine film and music to produce what many consider to be the most entertaining and technically advanced DJ performance around. He has recently annouced his first North American headlining tour this Fall, in support of the highly anticipated upcoming debut album 'Spectacle", which will include our featured "Body Rock".

Check out this trailer to Mike's current live DVD release Clown Alley, where Mike remixes audio to some of our favorite flicks including Napoleon Dynamite, Office Space and Pee Wee's Big Adventure. The DVD also comes with 3-D glasses for in-between skits where Mike evades insane killer clowns.

FoundTrack's August '08 Compilation (Track 11/16) - Benji Hughes - You Stood Me Up

Benji Hughes - You Stood Me Up (Track 11/16)
Album - A Love Extreme (Sample/Purchase)
Label - New West
http://www.myspace.com/benjihughes

Benji Hughes is a singer songwriter from Charlotte, North Carolina, putting together his penchant for clever pop in the love ballads that comprise his prolific 25 track debut, A Love Extreme. The strawberry blond bearded Benji plays keyboards and guitar on the record but not without the production assistance from LA-bred session player Keefus Ciancia (T Bone Burnett, Sheryl Crow, Everlast) . Benji loves his beer but he might love women even more, case in point, the chivalrous video for "Girl in the Tower"

Married to the MOB Fall/Winter 2008 Collection - Fresh Threads for the Girls

The badass ladies of Married to the MOB (Most Official Bitches) are back with some new fashion hotness as they present their Fall/Winter 2008 collection. Their Summer '08 collection was sick and it looks like the new collection follows suit. I love their raw energy and attitudey brand identity and bold slogans... really sick stuff goin' on here for sure:

Sick design- check. Spunky brunette- check. Purple hoodie- check. Sign me up:

This chicita looks like she bites... watch out for her, people:

The white jeans are rad... who says you can't wear white after labor day?:

Nice composition and contrast on this shot- I love the detail on her jacket and the bold print on her tee:

** FoundTrack Friend Victor is friends with the Chica that runs "Cult of the Cultist," and awesome ladies's streetwear portal and online store... make sure to check it out for all newest pieces from M.O.B. and every other brand that matters!

A scattershot of Sunset Junction Photos

These are a few days late I know, but regardless here are some obligatory Sunset Junction photos. Unfortunately you had to once again PAY to get in this year, which kinda sucks... the quality of the show hasn't seemed to go up at all from its good ol' days two years ago and back. Regardless $tyles G and I jived our way in and it was a good time of random fun. Here are a few random photos from the festive Sunday afternoon on Sunset:

Oh what I'd give to be 12 again and be able to ride carnival rides and chow down on snow cones:

One of the many local bands that was part of the $20 line up:

$tyles G and I snuck to the back area and saw where all the crazy Carnies hung out... it was nuts and you should expect nothing less of Carnies.

I don't know that much about bikes, but I do know the ones I like from a design standpoint when I see them- this one had a badass matte black on gloss paint job (it's a Harley Davidson V-twin / V-rod I think):

And finally, J Davey rockin' the house as always:

"The Brothers Bloom" Movie Trailer

"The Brothers Bloom" is a new heist/con man film from director Rian Johnson (who did the awesome indie film noir piece, "Brick"). It stars Adrian Brody and Mark Ruffalo as two brothers who embark on one last heist and bring a little socialite (played by Rachel Weiss) along for the ride. I'm liking how quirky this trailer's looking- Kinda has a bit of a Wes Anderson feeling going with it:

FoundTrack's August '08 Compilation (Track 10/16) - Katie Herzig - Hologram

Katie Herzig - Hologram (Track 10/16)
Album - Apple Tree (Sample/Purchase)
Label - None
http://www.myspace.com/katieherzig

Photo taken by Caleb Chancey

Katie Herzig is a singer-songwriter based in Nashville, TN. Paste Magazine has recently featured her as one of the top 25 best new artists after the success of her third solo effort, Apple Tree, self-released this past Spring. Katie has recently decided to Free the Tree, distributing her new album via NoiseTrade's remarkable and embeddable widget, offering fans the choice to tell 3 friends or to pay any amount in exchange for an immediate download. I've embedded the widget below so you can download the album straight from here and receive 2 unreleased bonus cuts not appearing on the album.

Check out her solid session on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic below.

"What Just Happened?" Movie Trailer

Robert Deniro and Director Barry Levinson (Academy Award winner for one of my favorite movies, Bugsy) have teamed up for this film, "What Just Happened," which chronicles the crazy world which we call the movie business. Deniro plays a producer going through a midlife crisis- we get to watch him balance his personal life alongside all the ridiculous daily ordeals of his career. While the trailer does leave a "this could be really fun or really bad" taste in my mouth, it DOES feature Sean Penn, Stanley Tucci, AND a fat bearded Bruce Willis as HIMSELF. Watch the trailer and judge for yourself:

Pimp your Mouse out - Louis Vuitton Mouse Pad

No this isn't a joke... Murakami was commissioned by Louis Vuitton to design a mouse pad for the Japanese edition of trendy Magazine, Numéro. How much does this piece of mouse casa couture cost? You'll have to be one of the lucky few that gets it as a giveaway included with the Magazine. Japanese fashion mags have a cool tradition of nice giveaways- I once got an inflatable Bathing Ape pillow with a Magazine I picked up at the airport in Toyko. A rad albeit bizarre culture indeed...

LiL Wayne summed up in a single Picture

I don't know what planet this Guy's on, but as long as LiL Wayne keeps us entertained he can travel to whatever galaxies the sizzurp takes him to:

FoundTrack congratulates Mister Wayne on all matters pertaining to his recent album's success and all matter pertaining to sippin' on the sizzurp.

Madonna x Chuck E Cheese's Rock-afire Explosion - "4 Minutes" cover

X
Those of you that grew up in the 80s or ever went to Chuck E. Cheese or Showbiz Pizza Place, might remember the animatronic Rock-afire Explosion band. Well looks like they're back for a reunion tour thanks to the interwebs and are covering everything from Usher to MGMT. My favorite cover tune of theirs has to be Madonna's "4 Minutes" - All the classic members are back including Mitzi Mozzarella (handling the Material Girl's vocals), Billy Bob, Dook LaRue, Fatz Geronimo, Uncle Klunk, Beach Bear, Rolfe DeWolfe, Looney Bird and Earl Schmerle. Grab yourself some game tokens, mediocre pizza and a pitcher and enjoy:

Highlights from SF's Outside Lands Festival

http://imgsrv.kxfx.com/image/kxfx/UserFiles/Image/OutsideLandsLogo.jpeg

So much to say and so little time. I thought i'd share some coverage and a few notable performances.

1) The Felice Brothers
Despite one of the smallest crowds at the festival i felt that every one of us their were convinced that the Felice Brothers put on one of the better shows we'd seen all weekend. These guys just have a great time on stage, especially the drummer Simone, who got up from his seat to sing vocals for a few tracks. Def'ly lived up to my own high expectations from one of my favorite acts of the year.

2)Radiohead's Electrical Light Parade
Despite production mishaps causing their entire sound to get cut off in the middle of two songs, Radiohead came out to play and although i was too far away to even see the band, the stage was all i needed. It was as if 50,000 people had gathered around the biggest LCD screen to watch the coolest screensaver plug in set to one of the best bands of our time. Check out this video and my picasa album to see what i mean.

Radiohead - The National Anthem

3)Tom Petty
Sound problems for the second consecutive night had forced Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to take a 5 minute break. It became a blessing as he ran into his pal Steve Winwood backstage and invited him to support the band for a few songs when they would return, including a cover of the Spencer Davis Group's "Gimme Some Lovin'. Favorites from Tom Petty's set included "Learning to Fly" and their cover of the Traveling Wilbury's "End of the Line".

4)Bon Iver
Moving to a remote cabin in Northwestern Wisconsin to record his debut full length, Justin Vernon of Bon Iver couldn't have asked for a better setting than SF's Golden Gate Park. Getting the crowd to chant "What Might Have Been Lost" in "The Wolves" was proof that he had captured us all. Here's a video of my personal fave.

Bon Iver - Skinny Love

If you'd like to see some incredible professional shots from all the bands who performed over the weekend, go to the Outside Lands Photo Gallery on their website.

Photos from Buff Monster Opening @ Corey Helford Gallery

Here are a few photos from the Buff Monster opening that took place at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City last Saturday. For those of you that missed the opening, make sure to stop by and check out Senor Monster's work - it's truly unique stuff. As BlackBook put it, the work looks as if it would be created in Japan, but alas it comes from the City of Angels. Buff Monster's pieces will be up until 9/2, and a limited selection of 3 different prints are available for $50 each. Take a peep at a few of the pieces, and the fun characters that turned up for the opening:

Murakami x Kanye "Good Morning" Music Video

Here's another awesome music video to a Kanye West track... this time it's the special animated version of the "Good Morning" video that was done by Murakami for his recent LA/Brooklyn art exhibits:

Gavin & Stacey - tonight on tv

Ok, I don't want to get in the habit of plugging TV programs but I feel so strongly about good shows that get lost in the multichannel universe, that I'm going to make an exception.

There are plenty of reasons to tune into the premiere of Gavin & Stacey tonight on BBC America at 8.40pm but the most important one is that it's actually funny. I have to admit that I find it difficult to laugh at most of the comedies on television nowadays, but this British comedy is an instant classic. It's one of those shows that you have to stick with for it to pay off, because honestly I wasn't convinced after the first episode, but once I started the second episode I managed to watch both seasons at work in just two days (part of my job - promise!) Written by two of the stars James Corden and Ruth Jones, this is essential tv viewing or definitely one for the tivo, especially those who are fans of British tv.

Check out a clip below with one of my favourite characters Nessa, played by Jones, doing what she does best.

Bloc Party - New Album "Intimacy"

Bloc Party released their new album "Intimacy" on their website a few days ago, almost 2 months before it is released in stores on October 27th in the UK (US - 10/28). In their first live webchat with fans a week ago they announced that they would follow in the footsteps of bands like Radiohead and release their album online first. After listening to the new tracks posted on their myspace page, I'm excited to check out the whole album and see if I can find my new favourite BP track (it's Flux, btw)

The album is available in mp3 format for £5 ($10) or £10 ($20) for both the digital and CD copy, which will be delivered in October and features extra tracks. Buy it here now.

For a taster, check out the whacked out video for new single "Mercury"...scary!

My buddy Josh Charney provides the jangly piano pop for the group and was recently honored for his score of the short film "I Kicked Luis Guzman in the Face". Burton's iDiom 2008/2009 Fall/Winter Snowboarding Collection

What the hell happened to summer?! Just like that it looks like the back to school ads are back hitting newspapers and the days are getting shorter. Oh well, at least for all you skiers and snowboarders out there it means that the season's on its way. While you're up in the mountains tearing up the slopes, it's important to look the part- Luckily for you, iDiom (Burton's high end brand) has just released a look at their Fall/Winter '08/'09 Collection. They've definitely got a green thing going on with these pieces, where it has to do with being eco friendly or not...

Didn't even mean to place the two pictures above next to each other, but they actually ended up making a dope ensemble. I'm loving the techie print on one side of this board that contrasts the earthy leaf print on the other side... really rad stuff iDiom/Burton has going on here.

Korfball - Sport of the Future

After being inspired by V's shadowboxing post and the women's fast-walking event in Beijing last night, I wanted to share a sport that my buddy/boss referred to me during one of our usual you-tube lunch breaks. The sport of Korfball is played in more than forty countries, involving a team of four men and women shooting a smaller soccer-like ball into a net basket 3.5 meters high. Daring duels between attackers and defenders unfortunately can only happen between the same sex. Now that baseball seems to be on it's way out of the olympics, please join me in bringing Korfball back to it's rightful place in London in 2012.

Here is a pretty entertaining introduction to the sport featuring delightful techno music.

Shadowboxing Around the World

FoundTrack Friend Howard Lee is basically your all around funny creative type dude. While he's dabbled in standup comedy, fashion, and other renaissance man type activities, his latest creation totally made me crack up. This video is a submission for MMA Fighter / UFC Champion B.J. Penn's website- For all you fashion fans, take note, Penn is sponsored by hip streetwear brand RVCA, and is one of their "RVCA Advocates."

RVCA x BJ Penn Signature Trunks

Basically readers of Penn's site were asked to submit "Shadow Boxing" videos (a la Wu Tang)- If you dig Howard's submission, make sure to go give it a quick vote-
