The Creative Showcase of Visual Artist Archan Nair

FoundTrack Friend DJ Iceburrg turned me on to the awesome work of Indian visual artist Archan Nair. Nair who's based out of New Delhi is definitely one of many many talents. As can be seen by the selected works in this post, several mediums are utilized, including illustration and digital art. The end result is an amazing combination of color, graphic design aesthetics and a very modern take on pop art a la Murakami.

Nair is the co-founder and creative lead at his own design and art agency, Cropped Circles where he's contributed work to clients such as Tiger Beer, Pepsi, GQ, and many others. His work is said to be inspired by several phases or specific moments in life. Take a look at these beautiful selections and in doing so we hope you become just as inspired as Nair. Movie Mondays - Futuristic Noir in the "Franklyn" Trailer

Tatanka (the voice on the intros to our seasonal music collections) sent me this earlier, and it's one of the coolest trailers I've seen in a while. In fact it looks so cool that I really have no idea what to make of it. "Franklyn" by director and writer Gerald McMorrow is a film noir style tale set in what looks to be a dystopian future. I'm not even going to begin to try and explain the synopsis, so here's the bizzarly obscure official one:

Preest (Ryan Phillippe) is a masked vigilante detective, searching for his nemesis on the streets of Meanwhile City, a monolithic fantasy metropolis ruthlessly governed by faith and religious fervor. Esser (Bernard Hill) is a broken man, searching for his wayward son amongst the rough streets of London's homeless. Milo (Sam Riley) is a heartbroken thirty-something desperately trying to find a way back to the purity of first love. Emilia (Eva Green) is a beautiful art student; her suicidal art projects are becoming increasingly more complex and deadly.

Like I mentioned above, I really don't know what to make of this so you'll have to watch the trailer and judge for yourself. The cast is an uber talented bunch and the film has a very cool visual aesthetic to it. Hopefully "Franklyn" will get some backing from a bigger studio so it won't just get lost as a cult sensation:

The Big Picture: "Pico Pocket Projector" - A Movie Theater in the Palm of Your Hand

Looks like all you film and gadget buffs have a new toy to play with- The Pico Pocket Projector is the latest in high-tech gadgets and is sure to be the next big thing. The projector is small, light and most importantly mobile. When I say small, I really mean small. It's so small that you can actually carry it around in your pocket and they have priced it reasonably that it won't break your pocket - retails at $399. The maker of this nifty device is a London based company that designs and manufacturers projectors - Optoma. Optoma has outdone themselves with the Pico Pocket Projector. Not only has the company made the projector affordable & portable but they've also given it a new cool and fun image - check out their uber happy marketing pics below and you will see what I mean.

Look at all the fun these guys are having. Your local watering hole doesn't have a TV, that's not a problem anymore - hook up the pocket projector to your iPhone and watch the highlights of the game from ESPN.com:

Jini's Pick of the Week - Daniel Merriweather

So this week I'm getting back to the music, and just want to rave about this one track that has been hitting the airwaves recently and has me rushing for the keyboard to tell you fine people! Daniel Merriweather is back with his first solo single off his debut album "Love & War", which is produced by Mark Ronson and released by his label Allido Records. The track "Change" features the talents of rapper Wale - check out the music video below.



As a bonus, here's the video for Wiley's Ca$h in My Pocket that features Merriweather (and was also written by the talented Aussie). The video had me cracking up and definitely makes me think my office should do it's own version (shame I was too late to enter the fan video competition!)

Addictive TV's Slumdog Millionaire Remix

Slumdog Millionaire is one the best films I've seen in the last year and I've been wanting to cover it for a while now. The whole film is great and the visuals and music supervision are especially cool in a very modern way- I believe that along with "Defiance" and "The Dark Knight" that it should be a top contender for best cinematography (and it's also already well known as a top contender for Best Picture). There's a good chance that a lot of you might have already seen the official trailer or the actual film by now, so I decided to feature this video instead. Addictive TV (who we featured a few months ago with their "Iron Man" remix) is back in action this time applying there signature remixed visuals and audio of "Trainspotting" director Danny Boyle's excellent new film, Slumdog Millionaire:

Gill Bumby featured on V Magazine.com !

FoundTrack's very good friend and international man of mystery Gill Bumby was just featured on the website of one of my favorite magazine's, V. For those of you who aren't familiar with Gill, he's basically a mysterious dude who wears a bandito mask. No one really knows who he is (think Banksy or Daft Punk) but that kinda helps with what he does. Mister Bumby attends events and using his typewriter, he and his female counterpart Jill Bumby proceed to write "Fair and Honest Appraisals of Your Appearance" for the people attending said event. While the idea tends to initially wig some people out, by the end of the night the line to get an appraisal goes out the door. The price is right (think a couple bucks a pop) and the results are almost pyschic and pretty much always positive in nature- Gill was nice enough to provide his services at one of our FoundTrack music compilation parties last year and people were going bananas for him. Bumby's based primarily out of NYC and mostly does art events but is available to travel to any type of event around the world.
