Two Films that should have been nominated for an Oscar in Juno's place...

With the exception of "Michael Clayton", I've now seen all the best picture nominations for this weekend's 80th Annual Oscars. For the sake of this post, I am going to assume that it is more deserving of it's nomination than the much over-hyped "Juno." Okay, now don't get in a hissy fit all you fans of the film- I enjoyed the movie and we even featured a song by the Moldy Peaches from the soundtrack on our December '07 MixTape. I'm just saying I don't think it's best picture worthy, and totally seems to be riding the "Little Miss Sunshine" type cutesy momentum.

Hence, without getting into too much detail, I'd like to mention two films that I think were totally snubbed of a potential best picture nomination:

1) Sweeney Todd- Tim Burton knocked it out of the ball park with this uber stylish and dark tragic tale of revenge-a perfectly designed, executed and directed piece:

2) 3:10 to Yuma- A western that went beyond the typical confines of the genre and truly established it's characters and their flaws. Crowe and Bale were brilliant as always, and the cinematography in this remake of the 1957 film was awesome:

Others to consider:
* The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
* American Gangster
* Into the Wild
