Italian Brand Super, launched last year and since then has been producing some rad high quality sunglasses. The shades are handmade and for all you cameraphiles out there, they feature Zeiss lenses. The rainbow pair above won't be available until 2009 but until then you can get the rest of the collection, including the "RetroSki's" below, over at Steven Alan- Or, if you have a Barney's close by, you can walk in and pickup a pair. Man, the color combos and frame shapes on these things are badass!

A few recent Banksy pieces
Here are a few recent Banksy pieces that were posted on his site. On a related note, the BBC recently reported that they know the identity of this vigilante master artist... I say who cares? As long as his art stays consistent I could care less if he's one dude, a collective or Batman himself.
Click on any of these images to enlarge them. Love the Banksy photos where random bystanders notice his crazy artwork:

"Yo! What Happened to Peace?"
I'm not sure who the artist of this piece is (** UPDATE thanks to commenter "Julie"- The artist is LA based "Travis P", and I believe it's entitled "Peace 47") - , but it's part of a larger collective of work from Ogilvy New York's "Yo! What Happened to Peace?" project. All politics aside, I just think it's an amazing design. If anyone can identify the artist/title, please leave a comment...

New Chromeo Music Video - "Momma's Boy"
Chromeo, the oh so spunky dance duo, has released the music video to their song "Momma's Boy." It's in my opinion the funniest song on their record, and now it gets an equally good video. All you animation/motion graphics (and oedipal complex) people are going to dig this as well:

Craftman's Eyewear from Japan
Here are a few more reasons why I often wish I was a trendy Japanese dude. These eyeglass frames are all featured in Japanese online fashion and design portal Honeyee's feature on "Craftman's Eyewear". They come from brands including Sophnet, FCRB and Uniform Experiment, and are are designed by experts in the field including Mr. Taihachiro Yamamoto and Mr. Kotake Chobei.
In maintaining the high quality associated with the product, only 200 pairs are made a month. Checkout these horn-rimmed glasses- they've got a dope vintage look and look like the ones that creepy dude on "Heroes" wears:
LOVE this dude's hair! - James Brown would have been envious!:
And last but not least, a pair of classic sexy librarian and Clark Kent black frames:

London Artist INSA does Barracuda and Live Even
London based artist INSA (of the crazy tripped out purple paintings we featured a few months ago) is definitely keeping himself busy. He recently held an event called "Take My Love" where he featured his work and gave away 100 limited edition t-shirts. Here are some of his signature white/magenta high heel paintings:
Looks like the fellow has also been leaving his mark in LA as well. I was over at Barracuda on Melrose with my buddy Blake this weekend and noticed some of his pieces on the corner of the building:
Turns out that the good folks that run the shop had him add some spunk to the outside of their store. Make sure to stop by Barracuda when you have a sec... Israel gave me a little preview of a crazy new installation that Nike is building inside their store. Here's a photo of INSA at work:

Texting Your Way to Love
Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a bit of a text messaging mad man- So on that note, I found this video to be pretty damn funny. Those mad scientists of comedy over at Current TV have produced a witty little cartoon that pretty much breaks down text messaging and the social dynamics of romance. Thanks to FoundTrack Friend and Israeli Firecracker Lamoomba for the head's up on this. Kick back and behold, "Texting Your Way to Love":

FoundTrack's July '08 Compilation (Track 14/14) - Fool's Gold - Surprise Hotel
Fool's Gold - Surprise Hotel (Track 14/14)
Album - 7" Single
Label- UNSIGNED
http://www.myspace.com/foolsgoldla
Fool's Gold is a Los Angeles collective blending Hebrew-infused soul with a westernized African pop aesthetic. The group was formed in early '06 when Lewis Pesacov, guitarist for Foreign Born, met LA local singer-songwriter Luke Top at a summer ceremony of Cass McComb's wedding. After working over a year on material , the band has just released their first official studio recordings, including our featured "Surprise Hotel" on their limited 7" single. I was fortunate to see their one-of-a-kind live show last week for the Getty's Summer Sessions and any inertia had been wiped out by the 10+ on stage, giving the getty-goers a poly-rhythmic groove with their world influence via the descending California sunshine. I even saw an oldy golden girl doing 360 spins on her wheelchair in the front row of their packed performance. Here's a little video clip of what we all got to see and please pardon the uncontrollable unsteady cam from the music ruling my world.

Gnarls Barkley's "Who's Gonna Save My Soul" Music Video
In preparation for the Gnarls Barkley Tour, here's the music video to "Who's Gonna Save My Soul." Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo of Gnarls are known for some wild videos and publicity stunts and this one lives up to that notion. I'm not sure if any intense diner conversation / relationship chat will live up to it ever again (and one more thing... does the actor in the video sound a hell of a lot like Edward Norton?):
Get your Gnarls Barkley (with Fallou Dieng, and Deerhoof) tickets to the LA Hollywood Bowl show (Sunday July 27) at Ticketmaster. Dates/Tickets to the rest of the tour can be found here.

Audi R8 Symphony
I'm a big fan of creative marketing and publicity stunts, so this Audi produced event totally got my attention. The German automaker asked a symphony and DJs from the group Bauhouse to create a live musical experience set to video during the R8s Brazilian launch. The Audi R8 is one of the most stylish cars to be released in a long time and apparently has the performace to match the visual flair (it was good enough for Tony Stark aka Iron Man). Checkout a pair of the performance videos below:

Adidas AdiTennis Hi - Vintage Courts to Modern Streets
Like many trainers that are popular in casual day to day wear, the Adidas AdiTennis Hi originated as an athletic shoe. In this case they were obviously meant to be worn on the tennis court. All I can say is that I'm glad fashion has officially beaten function for this model. While the white pair above is my favorite (the texture on the back is awesome), the AdiTennis is available in a variety of colors and patterns:
These are awesome in a "stylin' grandpa" kinda way:
Available at Adidas Originals

Eric So x ACU x CLOT - Chinese Earthquake Charity "Panda Tee"
Hong Kong Artist Eric So has teamed up with CLOT and Chinese Boutique ACU to create this rad Panda T-shirt. The simple sketch almost looks like it was made with calligraphy strokes. What makes this tee even better is that all proceeds benefit the relief effort for the earthquake in China. It's available now at ACU stores.

"Rebirth of the MixTape" Article
British Newspaper, The Independent just featured a great article on the current state of the mixtape in music culture. While some might think the cassette mixtape might not be relevant in the digital world, this isn't exactly the case. The writeup is full of great info and points you in the direction of several great web resources. Oh, and by the way, keep and eye out for a quick FoundTrack mention in the article ;-)~

Christopher Elbow- Chocolate Decadence
The other day my buddy gave me a box of chocolates that he got in a gift bag. Mistaking these "Christopher Elbow Artisanal Chocolates" for regular gift bag throwaway fodder was a big mistake on his part. Upon the first bite I knew these were to be things of legend. A little Googling was in order.
Apparently these ridiculously delicious chocolates were created by a chef called Christopher Elbow. Elbow has had a career at several notable restaurants having served under Emeril Legasse in Las Vegas and helping to open the Eiffel Tower restaurant in Paris. He eventually moved back to Kansas City where he started perfecting his chocolate-making skills.
What I think is really cool about Elbow's chocolates is that they not only taste ridiculously good, but also look really awesome- they're so good looking in fact that they're known as "artisanal chocolates." Not only does Elbow make invidual pieces, but also drinks, nuts and bars. Checkout this luxury hot cocoa:
If you're lucky enough to live in Kansas City or San Francisco, make sure to stop by one of the retail locations- if not you can order them from the official Christopher Elbow site.

FoundTrack's July '08 Compilation (Track 13/14) - Princeton - Ms. Bentwich
Princeton - Ms. Bentwich (Track 13/14)
Album- Bloomsbury EP (Sample/Purchase)
Label - UNSIGNED
http://www.myspace.com/princetonmusic
Photo Taken from Princeton's Myspace photo album
Princeton is an LA based trio comprised of twin brothers Matt and Jesse Kivel, and longtime elementary school pal, Ben Usen. A partnership was initially formed in '96 after watching the Tom Hanks film "That Thing You Do" but it wasn't until after college that the friends would reunite over a yearlong academic stay in London and officially form the band. Their studies abroad also seemed to influence their songwriting, with each composition on their recently released Bloomsbury EP being attributed to four separate members of the Bloomsbury intellectual collective in London in the early 20th century, including Virginia Woolf, Leonard Woolf, and Lytton Strachey. Our featured track, "Ms. Bentwich", is written from the perspective of the popular British economist John Maynard Keynes, as he deals with a brief flirtation that occurred between him and his then-secretary Ms. Naomi Bentwich. Since returning to their homeland, they've supported a number of big acts including Vampire Weekend and the Fiery Furnaces and now they find themselves headlining their own shows amidst a jam packed room on Monday nights at their Silverlake Lounge residency this month. I encourage you to see one of their next two shows. Here's a video of one of their bedroom recordings of "Eminent Victorians", courtesy of the Naturalismo Blog to give you a sample of what's in store.

Exhibit A - Gravity Song
In case you didn't notice, there are three people in mid-air, two who just came down to earth and two more who are about to get kicked in the face. How's that for an action packed live set of no holds barred rock n roll?
Exhibit B - I'm sold on the Sleeper Hold
If you thought that was intense, see lead singer Joey Siara jumping over brother/guitarist Andy's back and pulling out the "Brutus the Barber" sleeper hold over his neck. That's pretty entertaining right after you just finished your set but these animals do this in the middle of their songs, managing to play guitar and sing meanwhile with great care and emotion.
They recently released their highly anticipated Working Part-Time EP this past Spring on JAXART, which includes our featured "Andy Sings!"They've also been signed to the Autumn Tone label, formed by popular music blogger Justin Gage (Aquarium Drunkard). Please do yourself a favor and catch these blue collared indie rockers before they kill each other on stage.

Florence and the Machine - Hospital Beds (Track 11/14)
Album - Kiss With A Fist (Single)
Label - IAMSOUND
http://www.myspace.com/florenceandthemachinemusic
Photo taken by Tom Beard
Hailed as the darlings of this year's SXSW and dubbed by NME as the #1 band to see live this summer, the UK's Florence & the Machine have quickly captured all of our attention across the pond after having only released a single. It's scary to think that there is still so much to be seen from Florence Welch, who was discovered by her manager just 18 months ago when she was overheard singing in the bathroom at a party in London. The group just finished touring Europe with MGMT and now are on a festival frenzy the rest of the summer. IAMSOUND, who are one of the hottest labels around right now, has released the "Kiss With A Fist" single in the states, which includes our featured track, "Hospital Beds", a killer cover of my fave from the Cold War Kids debut album.
Here's the the video to the titled track on the single release.

San Fran's Birds & Batteries have been able to impress and progress on their own, self-releasing a fine debut full-length, I'll Never Sleep Again, while engaging audiences abound with their genre-defying music, blending the worlds of country, alt-rock, folk and electronica. Their name truly speaks to the heart of their music, with the birds carrying their outdoor rustic roots and the batteries fueling the digital dichotomy. The marriage of the two give a warm current to soothe the soul and keep you moving forward while retaining a nostalgic place for the past. This album seems like the perfect soundtrack to a video game involving a cross- country journey on the road. Starting things off with their one of a kind Neil Young cover from another brother of "Heart of Gold" and beating the game with the featured "Ocarina", riding off into the sunset in the back of a pickup truck being comfortably lost with a position as a free spirit.
They will be on a journey of their own this summer touring throughout the states. Make sure to catch them when they come through your town. I'll leave you with this beautiful photograph taken by Brian Stevens, which is featured as the album art for I'll Never Sleep Again.

Barneys x Converse Exclusive Pro Leather High Top
A Formula for success:
Who knew math could be so simple and fun. Looks like Barneys New York CO-OP and Converse are coming together to give us an all star collaboration. These high top shoes are simple enough, but the high contrast and materials (patent leather anyone?) are what set them apart. Score yours for $95. Wow, from shoes to music, Converse has reallly been celebrating it's 100th anniversary in style...
